Thumbnails do not show in windows 8 explorer

Method 1: Follow the suggested steps:

Step1:

a) Open Windows Explorer and then click on Options and Change folder and search options.

b) Click on the View tab and uncheck the box that says Always show icons, never thumbnails.

c) Once you get rid of that checked option, you should now get thumbnails for all your pictures, videos and even documents.

Step2: There is one other place that you can adjust the setting for showing icons or thumbnails in Windows Explorer.

Follow steps:

a) Type Computer on the Start Screen

b) Right Click Computer and click Properties.

c) Click on Advanced System Settings on the left side.

d) This will open up the System Properties dialog.

e) Click on the Advanced tab and then click on Settings.

f) Make sure Show thumbnails instead of icons is checked

With these two settings, you should now be seeing thumbnail previews for pictures, videos, documents, and other file types in Explorer on Windows 8. If you’re still seeing just icons perform the below suggested methods.

Method 2: Change View Settings:

a)    Navigate to My Documents – Pictures folder.

b)    Right click on the window and choose View – Large Icons.

c)    Let's see if thumbnails are available now.

Method 3: To Enable or Disable Thumbnail Previews in Visual Effects:

a)    Press Windows key + X.

b)    Click Control Panel.

c)    Click Performance Information and Tools.

d)   Click Adjust Visual Effects.

e)    Check Show thumbnails instead of icons, and click/tap on OK.

Method 4: To Enable or Disable Thumbnail Previews in Group Policy.

a)    Open Start Screen

b)    Type Group Policy and click Settings

c)    Click Edit Group Policy

d)   Click User Configuration.

e)    Click Administrative Templates

f)     Click All Settings.

g)    Double click/tap on Turn off the display of thumbnails and only display icons to edit it.

h)    Select Not Configured or Disabled.

i)     Click Apply and then OK.

Install PS3Media Server on Debian based Linux OS

Install from PPA (Best Option)

Note that the repository might not contain the very latest version. You can install PS3 Media Server (and keep it up to date) with these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:happy-neko/ps3mediaserver
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ps3mediaserver

Now you can run PS3 Media Server from Applications -> Audio and Video. Don't forget to restart GUI server after update.

How to cleanly remove (Uninstall) Apache OpenOffice 4.0 Released

You may be aware of some guides on the internet telling you how to do this, mainly using one of the following commands,

sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org*

sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org-*

If you run either of the above commands the following packages will be REMOVED:

aspell* aspell-en* dictionaries-common* hunspell-en-ca* hunspell-en-us* language-support-en* language-support-writing-en* myspell-en-au* myspell-en-gb* myspell-en-za* openoffice.org-base-core* openoffice.org-calc* openoffice.org-common* openoffice.org-core* openoffice.org-draw* openoffice.org-emailmerge* openoffice.org-gnome* openoffice.org-gtk* openoffice.org-help-en-us* openoffice.org-impress* openoffice.org-math* openoffice.org-style-human* openoffice.org-writer* python-uno* wbritish*

Now if you did, just reinstall these packages:

sudo apt-get install aspell aspell-en dictionaries-common hunspell-en-ca hunspell-en-us language-support-en language-support-writing-en myspell-en-au myspell-en-gb myspell-en-za wbritish

To remove OpenOffice

sudo apt-get purge openoffice*.* && sudo apt-get autoremove

To reinstall libreOffice

 sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-gnome

PS3 media server lagging problem with videos even with fast connection?

go to Playstation media server -> Click the "transcoding settings" tab -> Look for the bold print "Video Quality Setting" and in the pull-down box and select "Good Quality for HD wifi transcoding" OR "Medium Quality for HD wifi transcoding" and see if that helps.
PS make sure to restart the media server after making changes.

How to Upgrade LinuxMint 14.1 to 15 in Terminal

So i am trying to upgrade from Linux Mint 14, to Linux Mint 15, by following these steps.
1.) sudo sed -i 's/quantal/raring/' /etc/apt/sources.list
2.) sudo sed -i 's/nadia/olivia/' /etc/apt/sources.list
3.) sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
4.) sudo apt-get upgrade
5.) When ask, Keep new config files. Press Yes for all three.

a: Configuration file `/etc/issue'
b: Configuration file `/etc/issue.net'
c: Configuration file `/etc/lsb-release'
6.) Restart your system
